April Overview

I'll admit it.  I've been terrible about keeping everyone updated throughout the month of April.  In my defense, kind of a lot of stuff has happened!  Tom was out of town for work during the second week of April, so Sarah and I were two girls about town for a few days.  When he got home, we spent some time together as a family by going to the "train park" (the Streamway Trail passes under the train tracks near the 87th Street access point) after a yummy lunch at Chick-Fil-A.  Sarah got to meet the Chick-Fil-A cow AND they were handing out free samples of their banana pie milkshake - what a day!

On April 11, Sarah found a bottle of Vaseline at daycare and explored by rubbing it in her hair and all over her clothes.  That meant I got to try to find ways of removing Vaseline from hair!  (The trick ended up being to rub baking soda in it to soak up some of the oil, then wash it with Castille soap.)  It never did come out of her clothes!

(This is DRY hair with Vaseline smeared into it!)

It was a bad daycare week for us, because that same Friday, Sarah got Hand Foot and Mouth disease!  She was pretty unhappy for the first 2-3 days, but we later discovered that she also had molars coming in during that time, too.  Poor kiddo! The rash on her legs was bad.  The rash on her bottom was worse.  The rash on and between her toes was so bad that we had to get a special prescription cream to put on them!  Since it wasn't super comfortable for her to run around, we read lots of books....

...and practiced lounging in the play car.

She also played a lot with her kiddy chair...

...and tried some experiments with what mom will let go and what we put a stop to immediately!

Unfortunately, Sarah wasn't able to join me at the CureSearch walk on April 21 (I didn't think it would be a good idea to expose lots of kids fighting childhood cancers to Hand Foot and Mouth disease!).  Even though she wasn't there, I had a good time at the walk and really enjoyed spending time with Team Seth Smiles!  We walked to raise money to find a cure for childhood cancers and to celebrate my student, Seth, and his survival!  It was so fun to see him shake his stuff on the field with the Jazzercise ladies during the "warm up" before the walk.  He also got recognized in front of the crowd for designing the front of this year's CureSearch t-shirt!

Seth is quite the dancer! (He's the little man in orange!)

Checking out his team's poster with his brother and a family friend.

During the last week of April, we got a new TV stand.  Sarah had a blast opening and closing the doors on the new stand and then playing with the old one before it disappeared for good!

The weather this week was beautiful, so we ran around the backyard when she got done playing with the TV stands.  She's getting really good at walking in the grass and doesn't put absolutely everything she finds in her mouth anymore, and I think we'll spend a lot of our time outside from now on!

Finally, Sarah had celebrations this month!  She got all four of her molars between April 20 and April 28.  We celebrated Daddy's birthday on April 28 with a delicious looking lemon meringue pie.  Thanks to some humidity issues in our basement refrigerator, however, Tom got to enjoy a pie from Tippins that night. (Meringue and water don't play nice together!)

Sarah also had her first donut AND her first frozen yogurt this month!  Here she is enjoying some frozen yogurt:

By the end of the month, Sarah was feeling much better.  Here she is with Pickle, watching her daddy mow the front yard.  We like to think of her as quality control!
