Two Year Funnies

Everybody talks about the terrible twos, and trust me when I say I understand the true definition of this phrase.  What no one really talks about, though, is the funny, funny stuff that makes total sense to a two-year-old and absolutely no one else!

Here are some funny things Sarah does at the moment:

When she's sad because I show Tom something on my phone but I don't show her (or some other strange reason!), she doesn't demand to see it - she'll just go lay face-down in the corner of our dining room until someone comes to ask her what is wrong.

When she tells people that we saw a movie, she says we went to the "movie player."

She refers to tater tots as teeter-totters.

She has started to apply logic to her demands.  For instance, the other day she said to me, "It's nice outside today, so I don't need a coat.  We should go on a walk." (For the record, we went for a walk but she had to wear her coat - it wasn't THAT warm!)

Sarah has also started to name her baby dolls.  The names change frequently, but the one that has stuck the longest is Cowlish.  I have no idea where that came from, but her poor baby is stuck with it!

Cowlish, along with many of her stuffed animals, sometimes acts out and will "hit" Sarah.  When this happens, she talks to them about how we don't hit, and then she makes them sit on the stairs until they are ready to be safe with their friends.

These same friends will often push her out of bed at night or cause other toys to fall out of bed.  If I am called into her bedroom to pick up a toy after lights out, it's always Ellie's fault for pushing them out of the bed.

Sarah is becoming more and more aware of what is happening in the environment around her.  The other morning, we all went out for brunch.  Halfway through her pancake, Sarah's head popped up and she started looking around the restaurant.  Then she said, "Hey!  That song is on in Daddy's car!"  Apparently, Daddy plays a lot of Katie Perry in his car (I'm sure just for Sarah's benefit and not due to his own music preferences...)

Six Months Pregnant

SIX MONTHS PREGNANT
The Survey
How far along? 26 Weeks

Total weight gain? I was up nine pounds total but dropped two pounds by following my new diabetic diet, so I guess I'm only up seven pounds from where I started!

Maternity clothes? Heck, yeah!  And I don't even hate wearing the same 4 things over and over again...yet...

Stretch marks?  Not yet.  I keep waiting for them to rear their ugly head, though!  Thankfully, my stomach isn't itchy with this pregnancy (yet), either.

Sleep? I haven't been sleeping great, but that may be related to Sarah's sleep schedule more than the discomforts of pregnancy at this point.

Best moment this month? Take two of my level two sonogram!  It was so wonderful to my little cricket jumping around in there.  She's really looking more like a "baby" now, so it was so special to see her little profile and all of her tiny baby features - tiny toes, tiny fingers, tiny nose!  I just can't wait to cuddle her up!

Miss anything? Sugar and the ability to eat what I was in the mood to eat whenever I am actually hungry for it.  I've done the whole gestational diabetes thing before, but it was a totally different experience with Sarah!  With her, I had cravings and I was hungry all the time.  With this pregnancy, I really haven't had any major cravings (potato chips and that one day I NEEDED cheesecake aside) and I haven't been very hungry at all.  The diabetic diet is hard this time around because I have to force myself to eat more frequently.  Luckily, I don't really miss any particular food at this point!

Movement?  Hello, baby boxing!  This little girl is super active, but she's kind of a stinker about it!  She'll punch and kick and go crazy - until I try to have Tom feel it!  Then she is suddenly very, very still.  Poor guy probably thinks I'm making it all up.  Sarah has felt it, though!  The other night we were sitting on the sofa and Sarah had her head resting on my belly.  Little Bit gave her a pretty good kick in the cheek!  Now anytime Sarah touches my tummy she announces that her sister kicked her.  Hmmm.  Bickering before the girl is even born.  Yea...

Food cravings?  I had a real craving for cheesecake earlier this month (thanks again for indulging me on that one, Tom!), but I haven't really had any since.  Like I said, I'm largely uninterested in eating and don't really find that any foods "sound good" to me!

Anything making you queasy or sick?  I'm glad I'm done with the diabetes testing, because that Glucoa is some nasty, nasty stuff!  It tastes gross AND I feel all wonky for about 4 hours after I drink it.  Yuck!

Gender predictions? It's a girl!

Labor signs? No, but I can feel things starting to stretch and pull more and more as she gets bigger!

Symptoms? Gestational diabetes, an inability to bend at the waist and still be able to breathe, and a desire to sit on an exercise ball rather than the sofa.

Wedding ring on or off? On.  I think it helps that it's been so cold because my fingers aren't swelling much!

Happy or moody? Mostly happy, although all of these pre-Olympics commercials have me tearing up all the time! I'm such a sucker for the Olympics anyhow (I'm one of those idiots who genuinely feels like the whole world gets along for two weeks every two years), and commercials about moms loving and supporting their kids as they grow up and eventually become Olympians are just unfair to a woman in my condition!

Looking forward to: Setting up the nursery again.  I'm starting to get that urge to make sure everything is in order, and I've already turned the crib from a toddler bed back into a crib!  Next up - organizing baby items and determining what (if anything!) we need to buy...

Thoughts: I'm quickly reaching the point where I feel like I've been pregnant forever.  I think part of that is the fact that I've been stuck in the same maternity clothes for the last 4 months and I'm super tired of my wardrobe options.  I'm also impatient to meet this baby in a major way!  I just want to fast forward to holding her and loving on her.  Let's face it - I would be more than happy to skip the aches, heartburn and finger pricking of the next 3 months for some snuggly baby time!  That being said, I would never want her to come so early that there were health risks involved!!!

Bi-Polar Vortex

The weather this month has been ridiculous.  Super cold air (which the meteorologists blamed on a "Polar Vortex" sweeping from the Arctic across most of North America) hit early in January. The month started out so cold that school was actually canceled due to dangerous wind chills on Monday, January 6.  The following Sunday, though, it was 63 degrees.  We had a week of relatively normal temperatures but crazy strong winds.  Then we got another nice Sunday on January 19 (63 again, folks!) before it dropped to 17 degrees on January 23!  This past Sunday was another nice one with temperatures in the upper 50s, but Monday was a steamy 21 degrees.

I am SO over this bi-polar weather!

Poor Sarah doesn't know what to think.  She keeps wanting to go out and play in the backyard when it's freezing out and doesn't understand why we won't let her...especially since we didn't make her wear a coat when she played outside the day before!  Needless to say, we have tried to find alternatives for her when it comes to playtime.

Tom took her to Burger King the other night and let her climb and play for almost an hour!

This Sunday (one of the nice days!), we walked to Matt Taylor Park for some outdoor playtime.

On the walk home, Sarah decided that it was so warm she would take off her coat.  She also seemed to think that I was crazy for dressing her in pants and not in shorts that morning!  Luckily, she is nothing if not a good problem-solver, so she just hiked them up herself and marched down the sidewalk like this all the way home...

Looks like I'm not the only one ready for spring!!!
