Hats Off to the Pool!

It has been hot.  Miserable, nasty, can't-go-outside hot.  And it's been this way FOREVER.  Luckily, Sarah got a cute new swimsuit and hat from her friend Margo, so we modeled it in the kiddie pool on the deck.  She even left the hat on for about 30 seconds!

Sarah's favorite thing to do in the pool is to scoop and dump water.

She also likes to watch the leaves blow in the wind...

What could have Sarah, Pickle and Daddy so excited?  An ice pop, of course!

Sometimes, though, you can get too excited and take a bite that's just a little too big.  In those cases, it's best to just hold on to the part that doesn't fit into your mouth...

Isn't this dad the best???

Play Date

Hurray for play dates!  Hurray for three kids born within five days of each other! (Hurray also for the matching set of younger boys and the gaggle of older boys that go with them!) And hurray for kittens!

There was an extra special guest at this play date - a kitten on his way to be adopted!  Thanks for sharing him, Darcy, and I'm really sorry if he is now jumpy around small children...

Also, Sarah LOVES cars.  Even if they clearly belong to someone else.  Sorry for bogarting your Cozy Coupe all morning, E!

Strawberry Milk

Today I took Sarah to the grocery store.  While we were picking up some milk for her, I finally caved to temptation and picked up some Shatto strawberry milk.  Their milk is always so wonderful, and strawberry milk has always been a secret favorite of mine.  Let's face it - it's amazing that this is the first time I bought it!  I was nice, though, and shared my treat with Sarah.  Watch how she realizes that this isn't her normal milk sippy...

She finished it off lickety-split, and then started signing "milk" over and over.  Wonder why?

Sonic Ice

Sarah loves to eat ice.  Really.  She LOVES it.  She'll just reach into anyone's drink, pull out an ice cube or two, and start chomping on them.  And when she finishes them, she'll go back for more.  Knowing how much she loves this, we get her a cup of Sonic ice every now and then for her to enjoy.  It's also really fun to watch her try to get to the ice...

And yes, I eventually took the lid off for her!

Carousel

In an effort to play somewhere cool, we went to the mall again.  This time we met up with Shauna, Finley, and Nana Bev.  We played on the cars for a while, and then we rode the carousel!  Sarah grabbed a zebra, and Finely hopped onto a panda.  It was Finley's first time, so Sarah showed her how it's done.  She forgot to mention that you can't eat the carousel, though!

Talk about window shopping!!!

A Krispy Kreme Birthday

Today was Uncle Adam's birthday, and he requested Krispy Kreme ice cream for his special day.  Lucky for Sarah, that meant a trip to get doughnuts!  She loved watching the doughnuts come through the assembly line.  The hat was a nice bonus, too!!!

Oh!  And did I mention that she got doughnuts out of the deal, too???

And for those of you wondering how the ice cream was, it was really quite delicious!  Very rich and very sweet, though.  Try it - it's good!

Krispy Kreme Ice Cream

2 cups heavy cream
1 (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
5 Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts
(I also added a shake or two of cinnamon)

Add vanilla to heavy cream and whip to stiff peaks in large bowl. Chop Krispy Kreme doughnuts into small pieces. (I cut up the doughnuts, let them dry for about 4 hours, and then used a food processor to chop them up.) Stir into sweetened condensed milk. Fold in whipped cream.

Pour into a 2-quart container and cover. Freeze 6 hours or until firm. Store in freezer.

I don't know why I didn't take pictures of the ice cream.  I got one of the cake, though!  (We celebrated my birthday today, too.)

Adam and Megan brought me some beautiful flowers.

And Grandpa made Sarah a paper hat!  Everyone was happy.
