We don't stay up late at our house, but we get up pretty dang early. Most people would see that as a drawback on a holiday like the 4th of July. Luckily, though, things worked out great for us today!
Our morning started when we met up with our friends, the Days. We headed to a pancake breakfast...
...and then the Lenexa 4th of July parade!
The entries in the parade were mostly local politicians, but we did get to see some Boy Scouts, a marching band, and some Shriners in little cars!
Lots of people were handing out candy along the parade route, but Sarah's favorite freebie was a plastic cup. (Her mom's favorite freebie was the sample of shampoo and conditioner handed out by a local salon who, for some reason, had a car in the parade!) She also enjoyed seeing her friend, the Chick-fil-A cow, decked out in his 4th of July finery!
We came home, took a nap, and then Sarah helped me roll out the top crust for our cherry pie!
After all that hard work, we let her cool off in the pool for a bit before Grammie, Grandpa, and Uncle Adam came over for dinner. Do you love how her two options for playing on the deck were a large green ball at the light blue water table or a smaller green ball in the light blue pool? (I'm not so OCD that I need her toys to match - this just happened, I swear!)
Grammie, Grandpa, and Uncle Adam came over around 5:00, and we all had a delicious dinner. Tom smoked 3 different kinds of ribs, and Grammie brought some pasta salad and a corn salad that were big hits.
Sarah decided that Grandpa's ribs looked pretty good, though, and just dug right in!
She also helped herself to some of his cherry pie. I guess that's fair - she DID help to make it!
Happy 4th of July! Maybe next year we'll make it to fireworks...
