This weekend was really, really busy. But it was also really, really fun! We tried to go to the luminary walk at the Overland Park Arboretum with the Oliver family on Friday night. Sarah was screaming so loudly, however, that we turned around in the parking lot and just went home! I think we made up for any missed memory-making on Saturday, though...
Our Saturday started with a pancake breakfast at Union Station, followed by some time to admire the beautiful Christmas decorations there.
Sarah checked out the train but didn't ride it - she was more interested in the decorations!
We took some time to pose with Daddy in front of the cool lights...
...and then walked to check out the other cool things at Union Station!
Cool thing number one? Another train!
Cool thing number two? The giant tree with...wait for it...a train under it!
Of course, any time there's a tree, Sarah has to run around it!

When she got tired, we spent some more time watching the train.
We checked out one more tree...
...and then it was time for the REAL reason behind our trip to Union Station - a meet and greet with the Cat in the Hat!
She did a great job of waiting in line with us until the Cat appeared. When he finally came out, I put her on my shoulders so she could see him better. Look at the joy on this girl's face when she saw him for the first time!
Daddy held her for a while so she could see better (he's got a couple inches on Mommy!) and Sarah kept pointing and signing/saying "hat" - adorable!

THE CAT!!!
Sarah wasn't quite brave enough to go on her own, but with Daddy's help, she got a hug and a high five from the Cat himself!
It was still pretty early after our encounter with the Cat, so we walked across the Link to Crown Center.
We checked out the drum in front of the nutcrackers.
Then we checked out the "wa-da." (It should be noted that there were actual ballerinas dressed in their Nutcracker costumes milling about this area. Sarah totally ignored the princesses and played in the water instead!)
Crown Center is so full of Christmas cheer! Our next stop was the enormous gingerbread village...which featured yet another train...
We stopped for a quick snack break...
...and then ended our morning playing in the play land set up beneath the Mayor's Christmas tree! We'd seen a lot of trees, but this one was the biggest of the day for sure!!! Plus, there were lots of things with wheels for Sarah to drive - her favorite thing to do!
Even Mom got in on the fun!
Sarah also loved to watch the fountain.
Oh! And did I mention that there was another train?
By the time we finished playing, we were getting close to lunch time. We walked back over to Union Station and got into our car, stopping to watch the real train rush past the parking lot. Sarah's Great-Grandpa Ed would have been thrilled that we saw SIX trains in one morning!
After lunch and a nap, Sarah had one more adventure planned - a trip to see Santa! Lucky for us, Santa makes a stop at the Sprint campus once a year. There was no line for us to wait in, and just one family was held up by Sarah's refusal to talk to (let alone sit with!) Santa. Obviously, she has more love for the Cat in the Hat than for Santa right now! I had to be in it, but we did get one photo of her with Santa...
At least she enjoyed the candy cane she got!
When we got home, we let her run around in the backyard. That seemed to be a little more her speed!
And that was all just the first day of December! Oh, what fun it is...
