April 30 - May 6
What an exciting week! Kate was born on April 30, 2014. We spent the first three and a half days of her life in the hospital, but on Saturday, May 3, we brought Kate home!
Grammie, PaPa, and Sarah were on-hand at the hospital to help out as Kate sat in her carrier for her first ever car ride...
Sarah was happy to show her little sister how it was done!
Daddy carried Kate into the house around noon, and we all cuddled up on the sofa to watch "Frozen" (Sarah's current obsession) together. I think having two girls in our house will mean a lot of extra revenue for Disney!
Most of the rest of Kate's first week was spent figuring out our new routines, but she DID get her first bath at home on Sunday. Sarah even helped!
On Monday, Kate had her first visit to the pediatrician. She had left the hospital weighing 7 lb, 12 oz but was down to 7 lb, 11 oz by Monday, so her doctor asked that we supplement a bit with some formula. This was easier said than done, however, since Kate has been a great breast feeder but wanted nothing to do with a bottle! Luckily, we have amazing neighbors with small children who just happened to have about 14 different types of bottles for us to "sample" (thanks, Talboys!), and we eventually found a bottle that Kate would take. So much for the huge tub of Dr. Brown's bottles we have from when Sarah was a baby!
All in all, though, it was a pretty easy transition from hospital to home, and having a second child at home has been an easier change than I expected for everyone involved. Kate hasn't even been home with us for a full week, but already I can't imagine our lives without her!
