On Sunday, Sarah and I took a trip to the Overland Park Arboretum with Grammie and the girls from the Day family. (Kate was having a tough time with some teething issues, so she stayed home with Daddy.) The leaves are just beginning to change but it's still warm and sunny, which makes for the very best kind of fall weekend!
It also happened to be Hedge Apple Days at the arboretum, which meant lots of fun crafts and events for the girls to enjoy.
Sarah loved playing with this huge pumpkin while we waited for the Day girls to show up.
Once Leigh, Teryn and Morgan arrived, we walked through the arboretum to the Children's Park, which is where the events were all taking place. Sarah's first choice of activities was to make a hedge apple troll! I asked her what his name was and she said, "Actually, it's Hedge Apple." Well, obviously, Mom!
Then, Sarah got her face painted! I was afraid that we'd have another blue tiger incident, but Sarah sat down and asked for an elephant instead! Luckily, the nice volunteer was able to make a very serviceable Ellie on Sarah's cheek.
Next, Sarah got some help from another volunteer and made a harvest crown.
Grammie must really like Sarah, because she treated her to an ice cream sandwich!
Then, Sarah watched a puppet show about the animals that live at the arboretum. Then she watched it again. She saw the show three times before we left for the day! Maybe Santa should bring her some puppets???

...and then we all walked through the arboretum to the butterfly garden. This weekend was the peak of the monarch migration through Kansas, and there were hundreds of these beautiful butterflies soaring through the clear blue skies. The girls were completely enchanted, and it was incredible to see so many monarchs in one place!
It was a fantastic day for all of us...
...and it was a blast to spend some time with the Day ladies!
