45 Weeks Old

January 30 - February 5

This week started out with a fun day!  On Monday, my school held an all-school assembly to provide information about this year's student council fund raising event.  Santa Fe Trail has chosen to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - a program near and dear to all of our hearts since one of our 4th graders, Seth, has been battling leukemia for a year and a half now.  (He's doing great, by the way, and should finish with all his treatments by Nov. 2012!)

Seth's family has set up an organization of their own called Seth Smiles.  They sold t-shirts a while back to raise money to help families of kids fighting cancer, and a lot of our staff bought shirts.  We wore them on Monday to show our support - and Sarah got to wear hers, too!

Sarah didn't get to go to school with me, though, which is too bad since she missed Seth getting to show the school how to fight cancer!  The woman from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society had 3 students come to the front of the gym.  One represented white blood cells, one represented red blood cells, and one represented bone marrow.  She wrapped them in toilet paper to represent the yucky cancer, and then let Captain Courage (A.K.A. Seth) tear that nasty cancer away!  He was so cute and had so much fun - I appreciate getting to work with him each and every day!

 

 

Monday and Tuesday were both beautiful days outside, too.  Sunny weather with highs in the upper 60s - not too bad for the end of January!  I have to say that I don't miss shoveling snow, but I will miss polar bears terribly when they're gone.

Sarah and I went for walks when we got home both afternoons. Sarah took advantage of the nice weather to watch at the open front door for Daddy to come home from work.

 

On Tuesday, Tom proved once again that he is a loving and thoughtful man.  He managed to get me two whole bottles of Boulevard Chocolate Ale - a much coveted and hard-to-procure limited edition seasonal treat! 

Sarah was not allowed to have any (it is 9.1% alcohol, after all), but she did get to enjoy some of HER favorite treat - avocado!  By the end of dinner, it had become more of a facial mask than a food, but she sure had a good time with it!

 

What was super sweet was her offer to share it with me!  She gets a real kick out of feeding us, and will attempt to share all of her food with us - including things she's popped into her mouth before realizing that it's only polite to fish them out and offer them to one of your parents...

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful!  I took a class Thursday night.  We had a nice night in on Friday.  Saturday, Grammie and Grandpa Jeff came over for dinner, and then we watched the KU/MU basketball game.  Sorry KU fans - it was a pretty good night in our house! M-I-Z...Z-O-U! 

On Sunday, we had a few people over to watch the Super Bowl, but not before Sarah had a blast walking with her Stride-n-Ride dino!  She's getting so good at it that she's frustrated by her inability to steer the silly thing rather by an inability to keep up with it as she pushes it faster and faster across our floors!  Look at her go...

One more cute game Sarah likes to play is "Hide a Toy in Daddy's Shoe."  It helps that Tom's size 15 shoes are big enough to hide just about anything inside of them!
