Sarah's First Birthday Party

This weekend, we celebrated Sarah's 1st birthday, and boy, was it fun!  We partied hard, opened lots of great presents, ate some delicious cake, and really enjoyed some time with Sarah's closest friends and family!!!

Our theme was "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," and Mommy had a blast decorating for the party!  Here's what the house looked like:

And check out this amazing cake!

It was a gorgeous day (sunny and 78 degrees outside!), so we got to use the deck as "event space," too.

Sarah was dressed in her Eric Carle "Very Hungry Caterpillar" butterfly shoes and polka dot dress...

...and she was ready to party!

I didn't get the chance to take a ton of pictures during the party (more will be posted later), but here are a few shots of her friends and family enjoying the day:

Adam Eastland - from caterpillar to butterfly!

Margo Eastland, showing the younger kids "how it's done"!

Morgan and Taryn Day showing off their butterfly wings:

Baby Gavin, giving his best "Very Hungry" impression!

We let Sarah have a turn as "The Very Hungry Sarah" - she wasn't sure what to make of it!

A little helpful advice from Taryn!

All done!

Sarah earned her butterfly wings, but she wasn't very excited about wearing them!  It was lots more fun to chew on them instead.

It sure was fun to pull them off Grandpa, though!

Sarah opened her presents...

...and then it was cake time!!!  Sarah got the whole top layer of her cake to smash.  She did a pretty good job of it, too!  And although the cake was delicious (pink lemonade!), she only ate a tiny bit of it...

Post-cake play time!

Some of my favorite photos of the day:

We had a blast at her party, but we missed Uncle Adam and Megan.  They had planned on being there to celebrate with us, but they missed their flight from Chicago to Kansas City because of long lines at security.  We made up for it by having a second first birthday party on Sunday night!

After some burgers and brats on the deck, Sarah got round two of birthday cake!  She enjoyed it every bit as much as the cake she had the day before...

Then we opened presents from Uncle Adam and Megan - a fun water mat to play with on the deck, and a great textured ball that Sarah hasn't taken out of her mouth since she pulled it out of the bag!  What a wonderful birthday!!!
