Shining Star

This spring, Sarah has been taking dance class through the Shining Stars program. Once a week, she works on basic tap and ballet with Grace and 6-7 other girls while Monica and I sit in the hall and talk with the other moms. We truly had no idea what was going on behind that door. Imagine our delight when our little ones pranced on stage for their spring recital and actually DANCED! (Sort of. Each to their own drummer and such.) Sarah loved every moment of being on stage and even helped escort some of her fellow dancers off the stage when they headed the wrong direction at the end of their dance!

Our evening started in the Talboy kitchen where Monica and I helped the girls get ready. It was the first time either of them had really worn makeup, so that was an adventure in and of itself!

Once the makeup was on, the girls couldn't stop looking in the mirror and giggling. It was adorable!

They had to check it once before they got dressed...

...and again after they had their costumes on!

This may be my favorite photo of the night, though!

We took a few pictures on the front steps, then headed off to St. Thomas Aquinas for the recital!

The girls were taken backstage with their next costume in a bag, and the rest of us took our seats to wait for the show.

The girls' first number was "The Lollipop Tree." They sang a song, danced a little dance, and then ran to the back of the stage to grab a lollipop from a "lollipop tree," It was off-key, unchoreographed mayhem, and it was hilariously adorable!

The girls all left the stage with a Tootsie Pop and lots of applause, so I'd call Sarah's first stage experience a success!

The next number the girls did was "The Peppermint Twist." I don't know who had to change all of those girls from their first costume into their second, but I'm grateful that it wasn't me!

Lucky for us, the girls danced in the first half of the dance recital and were released to us at intermission. PaPa brought flowers for Sarah, and she broke out her lollipop ASAP. Between those two things and all the love she got from her fans, Sarah was a happy, happy girl!

We went back to the Talboy house to pick up our belongings and pose for a few more pictures.

Then it was home to go to bed on the first night of summer vacation!

We're so proud of our shining star!

These are the "official" Shining Stars Dance Recital Photos! Clearly, you get what you pay for when dance is through the City of Lenexa. :)

I love this behind the scenes photo from them, though! Just look how engaged Sarah is...
