I am a firm believer in Thanksgiving. In my opinion, you cannot begin celebrating the Christmas season until AFTER you finish your pumpkin pie. The one exception I've made to my belief system is that it's okay to visit Santa at the lighting of the downtown Overland Park Christmas tree the Friday before Thanksgiving. I'm okay with this because 1) it's become tradition now, 2) he's a great Santa, and 3) there's usually a tenderloin at The Other Place in store for me afterward. But what do you do when it rains on the night that the tree is being lit?!?

Kate seemed to enjoy her first experience with Christmas trees....
She was great with Santa, too! (Sarah helped her make her toy request - she told Santa to bring Kate "a big toy.")
She also seemed to enjoy riding on the carousel. She's ridden on carousel at the zoo, but only on the bench. Tonight, she got to ride on an animal! It didn't go up and down like they do at the zoo, but it's certainly a step up from sitting on a bench!

Kate LOVED looking at all the lights in the Winter Wonderland. Sarah loved her candy cane. It is what it is...

On the home front, Kate has really upped her crawling preparations this week! She can now easily get onto all fours and rock back and forth. She is starting to swing her right knee forward a bit, too! So much for getting through Christmas with her still unable to get to the tree to pull ornaments off!!!
The girl would still rather look at the world upside down than right side up, though!
This weekend Kate also had her first experience with leaf piles! Our oak trees are great, but they don't completely drop their leaves until around mid-January. This means that poor Tom is usually raking leaves in the cold! This weekend it was almost 65 degrees outside, though, so Sarah and Kate were able to play in the leaves before he bagged them up.
At first, she wasn't certain how she felt about being stuck in a big pile of leaves...
Then she tried to eat them.
I guess oak leaves don't taste very good!
Finally, Kate took a very Zen approach to it all and became one with the leaf pile.
In the end, she really liked playing in the leaf pile. Hopefully it's still warm next time Tom rakes!
